Our Story

Built on Listening. Driven by Dignity.

How a community response to Female Genital Mutilation grew into projects supporting women, girls, and children across three countries.

Chapter 1

A Gap No One Was Filling

Dignity First began with a simple but urgent observation: women and girls affected by Female Genital Mutilation were too often left to cope alone. Support services existed on paper, but in practice survivors faced silence, stigma, and doors that didn't open. We believed every woman and girl deserves safety, dignity, and the chance to build her own future, and that someone had to stand in that gap.

Chapter 2

From Living Rooms to a Movement

What started as grassroots, community-led support in Milton Keynes, listening, believing, and walking alongside survivors, grew into structured projects. Life After FGM/C brought specialist support, health advocacy, and help correcting medical records. Rising Daughters Education began equipping girls and young women with the confidence, education, and life skills to shape their own futures.

Chapter 3

Crossing Borders

Our work didn't stop at the UK. In The Gambia, The Milad Project now supports 52 orphan boys with safe accommodation, education, and personal development. Alongside it, our Well of Gratitude is bringing safe drinking water to children and families. And through Mentoring for Boys, we're raising a generation of kind, confident young men who respect and protect the women and girls around them.

Chapter 4

The Next Chapter

Today, we are building the Safe Haven Home in The Gambia, an emergency and long-term refuge for girls and children fleeing FGM, child marriage, exploitation, and other forms of gender-based harm. Land has been identified, and our Phase One fundraising target of £10,000 will secure it. Our story is still being written, and every supporter becomes part of it.
